So relieved - I'm going to be a physician-scientist! This process has been pretty draining, but also surprisingly fun. I've learned plenty about different programs and about myself, and I've been plenty gracious for the number of interviews I've received. Only a few more interviews left...and then the waiting game. 12/17/07 UCSF Interview 1/11/08 Columbia Interview 1/15/08 Harvard Interview 1/25/08 NYU MSTP Acceptance! Via e-mail from Dr. Ulane! 2/1/08 UPenn Interview I'm finally done with all of my interviews - what a relief! This process has allowed me to meet so many faculty and MSTP students and likewise hear about some amazing research. At the same time, this has been one of the most exhausting experiences, especially given that I'm still in school. With that said, I plan on savoring the last several months of my undergraduate career. I applied to a fair number of schools, but in the end interviewed at 10 and withdrew from the others once I heard back from Cornell's Tri-I. I've loved almost every program that I've visited, so I need to start differentiating between them and going back to my notes and reviews of each visit. Come April or May, I'll have made my decision... 2/7/08 Withdrew acceptance from NYU MSTP - I just wouldn't be able to pass up Tri-I for NYU, particularly the opportunity to do my Ph.D. at Rockefeller. 2/28/08 UCSF Rejection - alas, can't have 'em all! 3/5/08 UCSD MSTP Acceptance - call from Dave Brown! California is now a possibility - this is going to be a hard decision...I'm incredibly grateful for these options! 3/10/08 Columbia Rejection - I'm surprisingly okay with this one because I was a bit turned off at my interview. Still several schools to wait for! 3/16/08 UCLA MSTP Waitlist - e-mail from Kelsey Martin. A bit bummed, but I'm going to stay on the waitlist and just see what happens! Just a few more schools to hear back from (and finals to study for)... 3/17/08 Yale MSTP Waitlist - by mail. Alrighty... 3/19/08 Withdrew from Yale MSTP - I just don't see myself moving to New Haven for 8 years, especially given Cornell Tri-I MSTP. I also don't want to hold onto a waitlist spot when others may want it more than I do. Things are starting to narrow themselves down. I'm still grateful that I heard back from Tri-I so early that I was able to withdraw from a fair number of schools. I'm pretty anxious to hear back from Penn, Stanford, and Harvard; then, it's decision time! 3/22/08 Harvard MSTP rejection - by mail. I'm a bit bummed about this, but glad that the decision's finally been sent to me. I'm waiting eagerly for Penn and Stanford and starting to realize that this is going to be a terribly difficult decision. 3/27/08 Penn MSTP Tier 1 Waitlist - very disappointed and heartbroken, but will remain on the waitlist. Still, I would be incredibly happy going to Cornell Tri-I - waiting on Stanford and then this whole process will finally be over! 4/11/08 Stanford MD Acceptance - phone call from Dean Garcia! I just have to wait for the MSTP decision now...leaving for Tri-I revisit tomorrow and then heading off to UCSD MSTP revisit later next week. It's crunch time!
