I decided to only apply to one school, as it's the only one I wanted to attend. Anyway, I'm too broke now to move my family and buy another house. (Probably couldn't get a loan with no income huh?)
Timeline:
10/14/05 I applied the night before the August MCAT results were reported.
11/17/05 Secondary application was completed online.
12/01/05 Final recommendation letters arrived and I was notified by e-mail same day.
12/05/05 Received interview request, due to a cancellation and my proximity to DMU. Next opening was in February.
12/08/05 Interviewed.
12/16/05 Received acceptance e-mail.
12/18/05 Paid first $500 seat deposit.
02/20/06 Portal access received.
03/07/06 Scholarship offer received!
About my DMU interview day:
Very laid back interview process after a great day of information about Des Moines and the school. Talked to lots of friendly students.
$500 non-refundable dollar seat deposit due in mid-January and another in mid-May. Transcripts must be sent directly to school by July, the year of matriculation. Orientation takes a whole week in August.
Advice to future med-school applicants:
Get your online AACOMAS and/or AMCAS applications done ASAP, at least by July. Don't wait for your MCAT scores to apply to medical school, if you're taking the August test! Some schools will interview you and offer conditional acceptances. Procrastination promotes disappointment. For God's sake, be passionate about non-academic areas of interest during your interview, if the chance arises. (Have some!)
Finally: I'm happy to have been accepted! See ya there.
