Do not take the MCAT until you are ready.

Take time on your personal statement and make sure to tailor your secondaries to each school to show them you are genuinely interested; it will pay off.
Overall, I loved traveling around the country to schools and interviewing, it was a great experience. Make sure to save up money ahead of time so you can attend as many interviews as you can; you never know what school you might fall in love with.
