Summary of Application Experience
This website really helped me while I was applying, so I wanted to return the favor and provide a profile with some useful information. I tried to include dates wherever possible. I worked very hard to prepare a list of schools to apply to and I think this helped foster my enthusiasm about the entire process. I was fortunate enough to interview at 4/5 of my reach schools (UCSF, Yale, UNC, Michigan). Regardless of the outcome, I'm very grateful for my experience. Please work hard on your personal statement and your activity descriptions. Take that time as an opportunity to reflect on your activities. As far as secondaries go, quick turnaround is key Throw everything aside and pour yourself into your applications. This process is really long. It's December and I have no idea where I will end up going. Even though I've been fortunate enough to receive 3 acceptances already, I'm still overwhelmingly nervous about some other decisions, namely UCSF, UNC, and Yale. Sometimes I have to step back and remind myself not to get worked up about things that are out of my control...and also to recognize that I should be happy with what I have. Once you're clutching an acceptance, it's human nature to want more. I'm working towards being happy with what I have, because I think this is a skill that will benefit me a lot in the long run. 5/3 Accepted to UCSF. I honestly cannot believe how fortunate I am. My dream school by and large because of the wonderful location. Excited to start my medical training at such a wonderful institution. Strange to think of the leap I made from my low-tier institution to a top ten medical school. Some advice I do want to pass along - no matter where you go to school, if your experiences are average and you have been blessed with a stable financial status, be sure to apply yourself in your GPA and your MCAT!!! These numbers can open up priceless opportunities. Again, best of luck!

This was sad but I guess I'm just not what the school was looking for. It is a little fortunate because I didn't want to live in a place with cold winters anyway. Probably would have made an exception for Mayo, though, due to its incredible facilities and wonderful reputation for being a patient-friendly hospital and student-friendly school.

I'm glad Pitt rejected me so early...didn't really want to go here, just threw in the school to bulk up the number of places I was applying. Weird thing to do, now that I think about it, because I was only really invested in applications for schools I actually wanted to attend...and I believe schools noticed that.

Completed my secondary early, sometime in July I think. This interview invite came late compared to the others but was still very welcome. Excited to go back and visit Yale because I did research there this past summer.

I have family here, and this would be a great area to eventually live, so I am interested in this school. I don't think they are very out of state friendly, which is sad...I have heard (from current students) that they train students very well and are known for doing so. Moreover, students seem enthusiastic about the school and generally friendly and personable. The sense of community is strong and students are split up into different groups (called "colleges" I think?) and get to know their group members very well.

I was thrilled to attend this interview because I really want to live in California. However, I didn't like that the hospital was far from where classes were held (for research/shadowing purposes). I also didn't feel like I was a good fit here (intangible things, I guess). I think it came through in my interview that I was not too interested in the school after having learned more about it during the earlier parts of interview day.

I did not like the MMI experience and don't think I performed too well. My long form interviews went well and I liked the school overall, but I am somewhat grateful to be able to (most probably) get out of Michigan. (Withdrew following UCSF acceptance.)

OMG. I think I screeched after getting this interview invite. My ultimate dream school. I would drop everything and move here overnight if I had to. Loved the students, amazing research opportunities, LOVE Dr. Wofsy and my fellow interviewees.......I could go on and on. I think I'll hear back soon and am extremely nervous 12/18 heard back and am waitlisted. slightly disappointed but fortunate that I am still alive. I will do my best. 5/3 we made it!!!

This acceptance is great because it is so close to my house. I think OUWB does a great job educating its students to be wonderful physicians.
Not sure if I'm impressed by the research opportunities available at this particular school. I think I will have to go to second look to help me make my decision.

First interview and first acceptance. Fantastic school and I could really see myself living in Charlottesville. Everybody is really nice, wonderful restaurant scene, and the school emphasizes the education of compassionate physicians...anatomy lab doesn't begin until halfway into first year to prevent the objectification of patients. I loved this school and came back beaming. (Withdrew following UCSF acceptance).

So Ohio State initially deferred me on 10/15 but accepted me about two weeks later...which was weird. The program seemed fantastic and I loved that the school paired me with an interviewer whose career resembled what I expect mine to look like in 15 years. The students seemed happy...research opportunities seemed good...loved that their cancer center is built aboveground in response to patient feedback. This was more costly for OSU because heavy equipment used for cancer patients tends to be stored in basements...but they spent the necessary money to improve patients' experiences. This impressed me a lot.
Didn't get to see much of campus and I stayed in a bad hotel so didn't get a good feel for the area...hoping to get a better idea of the school at Second Look.
