Summary of Application Experience

For my non-traditional, low gpa redemption underdogs and to keep track of dates.

7/11/2014. I am just about half-way done with secondaries and I am tired of doing them. Excited to start the SMP next month. Really nervous about the application cycle - costing a lot of money. My prediction before interview season starts: 2, maybe 3 interviews, maybe one acceptance, and a lot of rejections. Hoping it goes better than expected.

7/21/14. All caught up with my secondaries for now. Feels pretty good. I pumped out a lot. Rushed them out and probably could have spent more time on each but I'm applying to a lot of schools and want to get them out before the start of the SMP. People are getting secondaries and IIs from schools that I've applied to but waiting to hear back from. Not a good sign or way too early to start worrying?

7/29/14. First rejection today from VCU. Coincidentally, on the same day I fly out to start the SMP. This will be the first of many but still stings a little. Attended my grandfather's funeral this past week. Good to be with family for these past 2 months. Time to get back to work.

8/7/14. First ever interview invite!

8/17/14. Last night before the first day of class. I'm pleased with how the orientation was run. The gist of the orientation was: beat the medical student average. They served us lunch and breakfast; it was an all day thing. They invited the course directors and professors from most/all of the classes we will take in this one year program. Sat at the table with a course director from one of the med blocks we'll be taking later in the fall and he said he can't tell if we're masters or med students, we're all just one big class to him. That's one of the main reasons I chose this particular program - integration with the med students. The professors of the med blocks confirmed this. They also stressed how we're not in competition with each other. I like that. I'm just in competition with myself. I think I will turn this into my personal diary and try to update this site periodically with my progress/thoughts in the program. I've worked hard to be in this position and now it's time to prove what I can do. Here goes nothing!
