Summary of Experience:
Small Pooled 11/6/13 #7! Don't know if I can make it yet though because dates are around finals... Will try and see if they can delay it x.x
Summary of Experience:
Just got the call at 3PM for an interview next Friday!! Short amount of time... gotta prep!
Update 10/4: We started the day just meeting in the student lounge and talking to each other. There were 20 students in the group. The first activity we did was a standardized patient practice. Only one person went to the front to talk to the SP while the rest of us sat around and listened. It was a really interesting activity! They also told us about some of the cool things coming up with their simulation rooms.
Then we went to tour a hospital. Because I interviewed Friday, we got to tour the Children's Hospital. It was one of the cutest Children's Hospitals I've ever seen!!! After the tour, we went over to tour the medical school with current medical students leading us to answer some questions.
After that, we were given lunch and shown presentations about the school from med students and the dean, and a financial aid presentation also. We then were let free to go to our interviews. Everyone was split into 3 times: 2PM, 2:45PM, and 3:30PM. I luckily had the 2PM time so I got to get mine done quickly and leave. The interview was a panel of 3 people: 1 med student, 1 physician, and 1 admissions officer. I personally thought the interview was fun, probably because I wasn't ask any ethics questions. Tips though, KNOW your health care information and practice some behavioral questions!
So that's it! Ended up really liking the school and how involved they are in their community. I hope I get in here :)
Summary of Experience:
My second interview invite! I was actually a little shocked for this one (in a good way) because I just randomly added this school after I got my first rejection ("scared adding" turned out to be good for me!). I've never been to Michigan before, so this will be quite an adventure. Even though it's fairly new school, I have no doubt this place would be a great med school. Will update more after my 10/11 interview :)
Update for 10/11: I absolutely LOVED the interview day (I think I'm having a problem of loving every school I interview at....). We started the day off with breakfast and intros. Nice assortment of pastries, bagels, coffee, etc. This was the first intro where we went around and introduced all the other interviewees, which was interesting and different.
After more presentations, we did a Team Based Learning (TBL) exercise. It was ok haha. Not the most interesting prompt, but nothing flat out boring. It gave us a chance to just socialize with the other interviewees which was nice.
After TBL, we went over to Royal Oak... which is HUGE. One of the biggest hospitals I've ever been to... We ate lunch there, which was SO NICE. Way better than all the deli sandwiches at other schools haha~ After lunch, we were split into 3 groups - 2 that go do interviews with different people and 1 that go on a tour. I was lucky to have my interviews first before the tour. The interviews weren't bad at all. I was asked a few weird questions, but nothing too hard to answer. The interviewers seemed genuinely interested in learning more about us and seeing how we fit the school.
At the Hospital tour... we got to see some really nice aspects of the hospital from the lounges, the Pediatric ER, the Sim Room (omg so cool), and the garden (ALSO COOL). I think I was sold by the hospital itself... especially knowing that we would be here once a week starting M1.... amazing...
Then we went back to OU and got a tour of the new facilities, the Anatomy lab, and so on. Overall.... I loved this place. Didn't think I would, because I randomly applied, but I loved it. I really really hope I get the CALL on 10/31 (halloween happiness??) for here..... Will update soon!
Summary of Experience:
AHH! THIRD II!!! Found out at 9AM right when I got to one of my classes. :) Best way to get someone's day going. I set the II for a later date in November though... The 9/25 day overlapped with a test day with a really stubborn professor, so I didn't want to deal with it. SO EXCITED!!!! I'll update after the interview :)
Summary of Experience:
My first Interview Invite!! It was such a fast turn around time from my secondary submission date to interview invite.
Update 10/4 (b/c I wrote a long response for EVMS....): The interview days started with a reception the night before in the Cambria Suites Hotel across from VTech. There we got to talk to a lot of current medical students and eat food yay.
The next day (Saturday), we met at the med school and got split into 2 groups (~20 people in each) based on 4 colors - 2 colors meant you interviewed in the morning, the other 2 in the afternoon. I was in the afternoon group, so I'll base my day off that.
We were first given a presentation about the school, the MMI interviews, and other things I don't remember rn.... And then we went on a tour of Roanoke, which was really nice because I've never been in Roanoke. Then they gave us a tour of the medical school building - lecture halls, anatomy rooms, standardized patient clinic rooms. Everything was so new and shiny, that made everything look so gooood.
We were then put in a room to try out a small patient based learning activity, which was pretty interesting. I think we went to lunch after that..... which was good haha. We got to talk to more med students at that time also.
After lunch, we switched groups to have afternoon people now interview. The interview was an MMI, which I was scared of at the beginning, but it ended up being so much fun. There were 9 (?) MMI interview stations with really interesting ethical questions. along with that, there was 1 traditional interview that went on for 18 minutes, but it felt sooo fast. After the interview, we all grouped up together a final time to talk about financial aid and info on notifications of acceptance. We get notified after 2 interview groups get reviewed. So they'll review the August and Sept interviewees, and then inform acceptances via phone call in late October. Same thing happens for the next 2 months, etc.
In the end, I loved the faculty, the school, the students, and the other interviewees. I really hope I get accepted here in October/November <3
11/14: Didn't get the call :( I'm still on their "active applicant" pool, but won't get any further response until april.... so I'm calling it the waitlist. Really still hope I can get in here! Loved everything about it.... Here's to more waiting!
