  • Application cycles: 06/04/2012
  • Demographics: Male, 35, Caucasian
  • Home state: Vermont
  • Brief Profile: B.S. in Biochemistry. I applied during my senior year of undergrad, only to realize I didn't know what I was doing. My first MCAT was 26, much lower than my practice tests. My second attempt on a limited budget granted me a 29Q. I was shooting for at least a 30, but such is life.

When I began my undergraduate studies, I became consumed with research. One of my family members was a PhD student at the time, so I wanted to follow in her foot-steps. However, after a few years of undergraduate research, I fell out of love with basic science. I wanted to finish what I originally intended.

Then came my first med school application cycle. I failed miserably. However, I used this as an opportunity to learn about the in's and out's of the medical profession and application. Needless to say, many of my fellow interviewees were far more knowledgeable than I.

My second attempt at medical school admission was far more successful. I applied early (first day), fared well, attended a couple of interviews (withdrew from the third), and I am about to embark on a new life at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

    Summary of Application Experience

I graduate in 2011 and worked at a national laboratory until our funding dried up. I moved on to a medical device company, conducting clinical research. My co-workers were extremely supportive. I couldn't have done all of this without them. My boss was especially forgiving over the past year.
