Undergraduate College: Texas A&M University
Undergraduate Area of Study: Biological/Life Sciences
MCAT: BS 9, PS 11, VR 13, P
Overall GPA: 3.88
Science GPA: 3.83
Brief Profile:
I applied as early as I could in order to *hopefully* negate some of my weaknesses.
1. I'm graduating in 3 years from Texas A&M with a BS in Biology and a Minor in History . WHOOP!
2. Have about 40 hours of volunteering in a hospital. Listed this as one of my 3 meaningful activities.
3. Have about 25 hours of shadowing a neurosurgeon. Listed this as one of my 3 meaningful activities.
4. Tons of research experience (about 100 hours in one lab and about 200 in another). I got paid employment in the
second lab and have a lot of responsibilities. No publications, however. Listed this as one of my 3 meaningful activities.
5. Starting a non-clinical community service organization on campus aimed to provide better water treatment facilities in Honduras. Will officially start organization in the Fall of 2011.
6. Did some non-clinical community service at an elementary school. About 30-40 hours.
7. Played intramural sports (tennis and soccer). Got to the finals in tennis with my doubles partner.
Hopefully it'll all be worth it!

Submitted my secondary before I got an email telling me to fill it out. This was a totally bogus reason to reject me and it was almost like the school set a trap for people to complete the secondary. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

Summary of Experience:
Great school with a great tradition of teaching talented researchers and primary care physicians. I was a little put off by the flaunting of their rankings during the afternoon session on Friday but I think the Saturday interviews and talks with students really corroborated what the rankings really mean: that the students learn in a great environment and are better off for it. It's really hard to decide what my top choice is right now but I think its a tie between Baylor and UTSW.
It also helps that my two interviews went really well in my opinion.
We'll see what happens in a few months!

Summary of Experience:
Baylor was AMAZING! The actual interview day was kinda good but the students, faculty, and overall feel was great. Hearing that the average Step I scores are 20 points above the national average was a big plus too. Being at the TMC is kinda intimidating at first but it certainly is a great place. Students seemed to really buy into the 1.5 year preclinical curriculum and seemed to profit from the 6 months of spare time. Baylor is definitely the top choice for me at the moment.
P.S. It was really cool to hear my interviewer tell me, "Don't worry you're going to get into medical school. You'll be fine." BLEW MY MIND!

UPDATE: First acceptance! Prematch offer with video received on the 15th of November. Was a crappy day until I got this email after a nap at 4 PM. I'm glad I'm going to be a doctor. Even if I don't end up matriculating here I think Tech will always hold a really special place in my heart!

Summary of Experience:
School was good. Not too sure if I want to take 5 classes a semester after being to schools with more integrated curriculums.
FIrst interviewer was great and we had a nice conversation. Seemed very receptive to what I had to say and I would rate it an 8 or 9 out of 10.
Second interviewer chose to grill me on anatomy and physiology and really stressed me out. After about 25 minutes of this interrogation he said that I didn't do too bad compared to others and the interview was concluded. I still left feeling really confused and kind of upset. Oh well you win some and you lose some.
Matched to UT Houston! This entire process has been extremely humbling and I am so glad I will be coming home for medical school.
