Summary of Experience:
Pros: New facilities, students seemed cool, diverse patient population, first class did well on step 1, Class seems close, lots of study time for the step 1.
mid: must complete research paper to graduate, no match list (because school is new), no on campus housing
Cons: Pass/fail but with honors letters for top students in the first two years, Roanoke is small, no diversity in medical students population, small class (42), 3rd & 4th year in rotations are new, far from VT main campus, not the best single life, No recorded lectures, mandatory attendance at lecture. cafeteria closed during interview.
Summary of Experience:
Pro: New York was amazing, I forgot how much I love the city, would love to practice in Brooklyn, students and attending are really passionate about patient care, patient population is ideal, students were more laid back then other schools
Mid: have a newer hospital that I did not get a chance to see, if accepted can shadow student
Con: switching to new curriculum, interview poorly organized to the point where it was very hard to get a feel for the school, facilities not as nice as other schools, dorms are expensive (over 1000) and did not seem nice,
Summary of Experience:
Gorgeous new medical school, class time 8-12, student housing cheap (below 500) – nice – really close to school, huge campus, tons of research, students looked like Abercrombie & Fitch models, everyone seemed cool, have tutors on staff, p/f first two years, summer class, school starts slow, great weather, class not mandatory, all lectures podcasted, can become instate resident
Mid: matches mostly in CA
Bad – medical school and hospital are not nearby, not very diverse, school in suburban area
Summary of Experience:
Pro: prestige, smart people, high board scores, P/F first two years, DHMC was impressive, good but expensive cafeteria in hospital, on campus housing (ask for single), Class is not mandatory. Had a great feeling and really impressed by school, possible access to tuck
Mixed: six weeks to prepare for step 1, class a mix of cool and others, rumor of new construction at some point, redesigning curriculm
Con:Expensive to fly to interview, Long class time, lecture instruction, small town, super cold in winter (one story of -40), lack of patient diversity (many elderly patients) at DHMC, campus has small student body, hard finding place to study during off hours
Summary of Experience:
Pro: great match list, school feels very metropolitan, huge academic school, great anatomy lab, all students were really cool. P/f first two years, great residency opportunities, diverse student population, diverse patient population, great gym, summer class, all lectures recorded, class not mandatory, simulation center (med students don't use much), many research and shadow opportunities, many places to eat by campus, campus is large with Mellon next door.
Mid: have to complete research project, on campus housing 600-900
Con: gets cold, rains a lot, have to pay for parking if getting on-campus housing
Summary of Experience:
Going into the process, UCSF was my absolute number one choice.
Interviewing at this school did not disappoint. UCSF has an incredible amount of diversity and energy. The day starts off with a meeting where the dean of admissions refuses to sell the school because… well because it’s UCSF. The day left a really good impression on me and little doubt that this is the school I would like to attend.
If you interview on a nice day (relatively fog free) show up early and take in the view.
Pro: gorgeous school and hospital, Hospital and school attached, many other medical programs attached to school and hospital, great curriculum, take step 1 early, begin clerkship early, diverse class, Burlington was pretty/ progressive/ friendly, UVM top public undergrad with large undergrad population, Clerkship around country (Florida, Connecticut, some other northeast), people are really nice,
Mid: scholarly project (not necessarily research), did not get to stay with host because of upcoming test - as an effect did not get as much info as other schools
Con: H/P/F in pre-clerkship, audio: no video podcast of class, really cold in winter, not a lot of diversity in patient population, Burlington is small, No student housing, private housing is not cheap, need car during clerkship and possible for on doctoring, expensive for OOS, cannot become in-state resident
